Teleoperating low speed electric pods introduces new opportunities for start-ups and corporations to innovate
on mobilization of connected services. Through teleoperation, companies get a short path to market entry to
validate their use case. While for some use cases, the development of a full autonomous stack is needed to
enhance the economics of the service/product, other services might prove profitable through the elimination of
labor mobilization to support the service as with micro-mobility providers. This project aims to investigate the
feasibility of 5G networks for transmitting real-time low latency vehicle data to a remote station while
transmitting back operator’s commands from the station to the vehicle. The test will investigate the effects of
various parameters on the transmission reliability such as the vehicle speed, vehicle power level, distance
between the vehicle and the 5G tower, effect of buildings on the signal and the location of the antenna on the
vehicle.
