Mainblades Inspections (MBI) provides aircraft inspection services using drones and AI software, thereby reducing turnaround time for these compulsory inspections with a factor of 5. The inspections are performed indoors, however with a drone these inspections could be performed outdoors i.e., the flight space of an active airport. Especially in these situations connectivity options like 4G and 5G will be more important. The product from MBI consists of hardware, a drone platform and control unit, and the software for processing and viewing the inspection data. MBI wants to explore the possibilities of a 5G network by streaming sensor information from camera and lidar sensors to the cloud, instead of operating these devices from the edge.
