Wound care can be a painful and stressful experience for patients. Inadequately managed pain leads to longer treatment periods, increasing need for pain medication, extended hospitalization, and need for anesthesia in the operating room. Virtual reality (VR) is a valid tool for reducing the amount of pain, anxiety and stress experienced during medical procedures. The use of VR reduces the time of painful procedures and the hospitalization time and also increases the fun and enjoyment, and therefore improves the overall patient experience. The involvement of VR technology in wound care adds some digital interactions to conventional care procedures, which would transform the traditional patient experience into a digital patient experience. However, there is no evidence yet for cost effectiveness. In the upcoming 10 months the wound expertise centre of Erasmus MC and SyncVR Medical will conduct a scientific study to the use of VR during wound care and this subsidy voucher will be used to develop a financial cost effectiveness business case.
Goal of this project: develop a cost effectiveness business case for wound care with VR within Erasmus MC. As such, we want to strengthening insight into the social business case, such as social return on investment.
Activities: based upon all data gathered during scientitif study, develop a cost effectiveness business case (with SROI) through QALY method.
